Continuing Education Credits (CEs)

(Formerly known as "Archival Recertification Credits" or "ARCs"). As a Certified Archivist, you have the option of either recertifying by petition or recertifying by exam. If you choose to recertify by petition, you will need to complete a variety of continuing education courses. These courses will be listed in Section B. Education, and range from 20 credits for a university-level course to 1 credit for a 1-2 hour webinar. Many organizations will request that a particular course be pre-qualified through ACA, and these courses are listed below. Since there are now more than 750 individual courses in our list since 2005, they have been organized by year for ease of use. Many of the online workshops are still available, even if it has been a few years since the original posting.

This is not a complete listing of all the possible courses currently available to archivists. It is only a list of the ones which have been prequalified for credits. If you have a course or workshop you would like to prequalify for recertification credits, please apply here. If you have any questions, please contact the Regent for Certification Maintenance, certificationmaintenance@certifiedarchivists.org

Call for Proctors

Are you interested in assisting ACA exam candidates while earning recertification credits? We are seeking volunteers to proctor the online exam June 11-13, 2026. Sign up here. The 3-hour exam will be offered multiple times throughout the three days, and you can choose the time slots that fit your availability. Each proctoring session lasts for 5 hours and is entirely online. It’s a great chance to meet your fellow CAs and to help future CAs!

To ensure that everyone can earn points toward recertification, please do not sign up for more than two time slots. Proctor training will be provided several times in early June. If you have any questions, please reach out to examadmin@certifiedarchivists.org.
