Job Summary

Head of University Archives and Special Collections (University Archivist) will aid in the acquisition, identification, appraisal, preservation, description, and access to historically valuable archival materials related to UT Tyler and its special collections, including print, digital, and born-digital materials. Archivist will provide instruction, reference/research services, advocacy and outreach for the University Archives and Special Collections.


Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks


Supervise all functions of University Archives and develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for long-term management of print and digital content.
Capture, preserve, store, and provide access to print, digital and born-digital records of historic value related to the university.
Direct the archives website, ArchivesSpace and the creation of finding aids or indexes of archival collections.
Digitize and provide access to print archives and special collections.
Provide in-depth research, reference, and instruction services related to university history and surrounding communities, archival collections, and the archival profession.
Participate in archives and library outreach programming and create displays, digital exhibits and marketing materials as needed.
Engage in activities that contribute to the advancement of the archives, library, the university, and the archival profession.
Provide general reference assistance on call, serve on library committees and work groups, in addition to university committees.
Maintain awareness of professional developments, issues, and practices that positively impact one's performance and service contributions.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library / Information Science with a concentration in Archives or related advanced/ Master's degree in a related discipline.
Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office.

Preferred Education/Experience

Experience in processing archival collections.
Knowledge of archival standards, concepts, methodology, and techniques.
Experience providing reference/research and instructional services.
Experience with ArchivesSpace information management system.
Experience with project management.
Experience with outreach and public relations.
Additional degree in history or related field, ACA certification.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
