Purpose
Oversee the appraisal, processing, preservation, description of and access to born digital and digitized archival materials.
Responsibilities
Appraise, preserve, describe, and provide access to primary source digital materials, both born digital and digital content created in house.
Develop and document policies and procedures for stewardship of digital materials, including email, websites, social media as well as material residing on current or legacy formats.
Participate in center-wide activities, collaborative working groups, and other center committees as assigned.
Keep abreast of current trends in digital preservation theory, standards and technologies and lead evaluation and implementation of tools, standards and systems related to digital stewardship and metadata management.
Manage the staff in the Digital Archives Unit.
Represent the Briscoe Center and University Archive in collaborative campus wide digital stewardship efforts.
Meet and communicate with donors to facilitate collection development and acquisition process and assist in transferring archival collections to the Center, with some occasional travel as needed.
Work in the reading room regularly and respond to reference inquiries from a wide variety of individuals and entities.
Required Qualifications
Masters degree in Information Science, Information Studies, History or other closely related field with a concentration in archival enterprise.
1-2 years working with digital material in an archival setting.
Strong technical expertise with digital objects in a library or cultural heritage organization.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with digital stewardship issues, tools, standards, and best practices.
Familiarity with metadata standards relevant to archival collections.
Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative work environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
Certified Archivist designation.
Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) certificate from the Society of American Archivists
Experience planning and managing a digital preservation program.
Supervisory experience.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Experience designing and managing complex projects.
Demonstrated ability to create solutions for problems, negotiate difficult situations, motivate staff, and maintain a productive harmonious work environment.
Ability to embrace ambiguity in a changing environment and be committed to continual professional development, improvement and learning.
Experience leading collaborative initiatives in a highly distributed environment.
Experience working with Preservica.
Experience working with Drupal based open source digital objects repositories like Islandora and Archipelago.
Salary Range
$59,000

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
