The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet is an international congregation of women religious whose Congregational Center is in St. Louis. The congregation consolidated the majority of our North American archival holdings into one facility in 2018. The archives also hold additional special collections.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Carondelet Consolidated Archives is to preserve and share the history, spirit and the memory of the congregation. The archives is established to identify, collect, arrange, preserve, and make available to qualified researchers official and non-current administrative records and other historical materials (print, digital, and media formats) relating to the governance, ministries, and members of the congregation.

Position Summary
The Digital Archivist will work under the supervision of the Director of the Carondelet Consolidated Archives. The two primary responsibilities of the position are to create online digital exhibits with content from our collections and to archive digital records. Other responsibilities include assisting with digital preservation efforts, assisting with research requests and creating content for the blog and social media. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and a multitasker with a working knowledge of digitization and metadata standards.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree 
Minimum of one year’s experience (or relevant graduate-level course work) working with archives and/or online digital collections  
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks 
Knowledge of archival theory and practice for materials in all formats 
Knowledge of metadata and digitization standards 
Knowledge of digital preservation standards, e.g. NDSA recommended levels of preservation chart
Familiarity with a variety of digital file types, e.g. JPEG, TIFF, MOV, MP4
Experience with content management systems or institutional repositories 
Strong written, communication, problem-solving and planning skills 
Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, i.e. Word, Excel, Access
Ability to work alone as well as in collaboration with others 
Ability to maintain confidentiality 
Passion for ministry and an appreciation and understanding of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet mission, charism and heritage 
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Archives or Library Information Science or other related field 
Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists 
Experience with PastPerfect Museum Software  
Knowledge of Catholicism, Catholic history in the United States and vowed religious life 
Environment
In accordance with the Society of American Archivists’ Guidelines for Accessible Archives for People with Disabilities and out of consideration for those who are sensitive to smells and/or allergic to fragrances, the archives is a smoke-free and fragrance-free environment. Both employees and researchers should avoid wearing perfumes, colognes and other scented products onsite. A smoke-free/fragrance-free environment also helps protect the archival collections, which could absorb these elements over time and accelerate deterioration. 

Accountability
The Digital Archivist is accountable to the Director of the Carondelet Consolidated Archives.

Status
Full-time 8-hour day shift, Monday through Friday; possibility for occasional remote work after successful completion of three-month probationary period. 

Compensation
$50,000 annually
