Job Summary

The Archivist will manage, preserve, and make accessible archival materials associated with our cultural resource projects. The Archivist will handle historical documents and artifacts with care and expertise.

Compensation:

Chloeta reserves the right to offer any candidate above or below the listed compensation amount based on experience or business needs.

$55,000-$75,000 per year
FLSA Exempt

Duties/Responsibilities

Appraises, processes, catalogs, and preserves archival materials, including documents, photographs, maps, and digital records.
Implements and maintains digital asset management systems to ensure the accessibility and preservation of digital archives.
Develops and enforces policies and procedures for archival collection management, in line with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Collaborates with historians, curators, and other professionals to interpret and integrate archival materials into broader cultural resource management efforts.
Conducts research within the archive as required to support project goals and historical interpretations.
Provides guidance on archival standards and practices to team members and stakeholders.
Manages requests for information and access to the archives from researchers, students, and the public.

Required Skills/Abilities

Proficient understanding of archival theory and best practices, including appraisal, accessioning, cataloging, preservation, and access. This includes both physical and digital archives.
Skills in managing digital records, understanding of digital preservation standards, and experience with digital repository software and platforms. Knowledge of metadata standards and digital preservation strategies is crucial.
Ability to conduct and assist with scholarly research. This includes familiarity with archival and library databases and resources and the ability to guide researchers in accessing and interpreting archives.
Exceptional organizational and project management skills to manage collections, including the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines.
Precision and care in handling, cataloging, and describing archival materials to ensure their preservation and accessibility.
Understanding and respecting the cultural significance of the materials within the archive, including awareness of and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of indigenous and cultural groups associated with the archival materials.
Awareness of the legal, ethical, and policy issues related to archives and cultural resources. This includes knowledge of copyright, privacy laws, and culturally sensitive materials handling.
Ability to address challenges related to archival management and preservation, including developing solutions for the long-term preservation of fragile or at-risk materials.
Willingness to stay updated with the latest archival standards, preservation techniques, and technologies, and a proactive professional development approach.

Education and Experience

Required: Master’s degree in archeology, anthropology, or related field to cultural resources
Required: At least five (5) years of working experience in cultural resources
Required: Completion of field school in archeology or anthropology
Preferred: Certified Archivist (CA)
Preferred: At least two (2) years of cultural resources experience in the Great Plains Regions; Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.

Pre-employment Requirements

Due to the nature of Chloeta’s services, this position is contingent upon completing with a satisfactory outcome some or all of the following pre-employment background screenings: government security clearance, federal and state criminal background checks, drug test (urinalysis), Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, educational history, employment history, and/or credit check. In accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), pre-employment background screenings will require the employee’s written authorization and will occur after acceptance of an offer of employment and prior to commencing work. Additionally, employees are required to complete the federal I-9/E-Verify process.
