General Notes
This is a temporary fixed term position for a period of 18 months from the date of hire.
Purpose
Arrange, describe, preserve, and provide access to the John J. McDermott Papers
Responsibilities
Appraise, arrange, describe, preserve and provide access to the papers of American philosopher and professor John J. McDermott in accordance with DACS Standards.
Perform word processing and use Archives Space to produce finding aids.
Select and digitize original documents from the John J. McDermott Papers for online access via the Briscoe Center’s digital media repository. Create metadata using library and archival descriptive standards and controlled vocabularies.
Recruit, train, and supervise project staff - including student workers.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Library and Information Science.
Experience in historical research with primary and secondary documents.
Knowledge of research methodologies and techniques.
Work experience in special collections, a research center, or archive.
Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative work environment.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to lift numerous 50 lb boxes during a 3-4 hour period of time.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Academy of Certified Archivists certification.
Knowledge of and experience with archival procedures, including arrangement and description.
Experience with preservation methods for archives.
Experience using ASpace.
Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently, as well as as part of a team.
Ability to collect, organize and interpret information from various sources and to compose descriptive narratives that are clear, concise and grammatically correct.
Professional demeanor.
Supervisory experience.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Experience making selections for digitization projects or for general curation purposes.
Knowledge of digital technologies, standards, and best practices.
Experience creating metadata using library and archival descriptive standards and controlled vocabularies.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Employment Eligibility:
