Job Summary:
The Digital Collections Archivist will work closely with Curation and Collections department colleagues and internal/external clienteles and is responsible for the management of the Ilitch Holdings, Inc. Archives digital collections according to best practices and the highest legal, ethical, and professional standards. The Digital Collections Archivist is responsible for the ongoing digital integrity, digitization//ingestion of digital assets into preservation servers, Digital Asset Management and Content Management Systems. This position plays a strong role in regular analysis and enhancement of metadata and plays a critical role in identifying owners of copyrighted digital materials, affirms their authenticity, secures permission for their use and serves as the IHI Archives Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Takedown Agent.
Key Responsibilities:
Management of digital collections, including establishing policies and procedures, planning workflows, setting priorities, and making budget recommendations.
Management of the digital asset management and collections management system in collaboration with internal colleagues and 3rd party vendor.
Digitization of physical assets using Rapid Archival Imaging and Description (RAID) and Analog Tape to Digital Conversion (ATDC) stations.
Ingest digital assets into digital asset management and collections management system.
Ascribe and analyze metadata of digital assets to improve access to collections.
Identify, arrange, describe, facilitate access to and provide reference/research services for digital collections.
Collect game/event photography and related digital content, as well as key final digital files related to advertising/public relations campaigns, and other historically significant moments across all Ilitch companies.
Identify and preserve at-risk analog, digital assets and legacy file formats.
Collaborate with policy creation compatible with emerging standards, establishing guidelines and workflows for digital collections, including digitization, metadata, intellectual property, and digital preservation.
Research ownership to Copyrighted materials to ensure legal usage.
Play a strong role in communications between representative teams from different Ilitch Companies and both the internal Digital Asset Management Core Team and the external Archives Services core team.
Promote awareness and understanding of developments and trends in the field of digital preservation through internal outreach, and professional service and engagement.
Assist IHI Archives colleagues with inventory, accession and/or movement of physical objects.
Other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications/Experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or Museum Studies.
1-3 years of experience in archives or curation, with 1 year in digital curation and/or digital preservation.
Experience with relevant aspects of archival operations including a strong understanding of archival theory and standards, best practices and their real-world application, trends and emerging technologies.
Experience working with at least one digital asset management system or collections management system.
Deep appreciation for, and demonstrated understanding of, the purpose and structure of archival-related discovery metadata and access environments.
Demonstrated knowledge of metadata content, structure, and preservation standards (MARC, EAD, METS, MODS, etc.).
Working knowledge of historical research methodology.
Basic understanding of copyright and data protection issues.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail for complex detail-oriented work.
Excellent oral and written communications.
Ability to work independently, as a team member, and across organizational boundaries in a highly demanding environment.
Ability to identify challenges and opportunities, engage others in their resolution and recommend appropriate courses of action.
Flexibility to be organized, productive and effective in a dynamic environment, involved with a variety of simultaneous projects.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science or Archival Studies.
Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists.
Knowledge or experience in a museum or cultural institution environment.
Knowledge or experience in a sports or entertainment environment.
Working Conditions:
Exposure to storage areas with cool temperatures (60 degrees) on a frequent basis.
Exposure to damp, dusty, and dirty areas.
Able to physically handle collection items and boxes, including the ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.
Able to do a significant amount of walking daily (sports and event venues are large!)
