The Library seeks a creative and dedicated individual with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to knowledge management and best practices in archives and libraries. The Archivist will preserve and provide access to Highland Park’s history through oversight and maintenance of the physical and digital Highland Park Archives and Local History Collections (HPALHC). The collections include the archives of the City of Highland Park, the local history files of the Library, and archives curated by the Highland Park Historical Society and donated to the City.
This position is responsible for the continued development of the collection memorializing the individual and collective experiences resulting from the Highland Park shooting in 2022. This position will also support the development of improved spaces within the Library to house the physical collections.

Duties:
• Oversee development of and access to the collection including accessioning, processing, and descriptions of content.
• Conduct archives-related reference interviews and answer reference questions in person and by phone, email, and mail.
• Champion preservation of local history in partnership with local agencies.
• Collaborate with and train Information & Reader Services (I&RS) team as a department member to apply archival best practices.
• Recruit, supervise, and train volunteers and interns.
• Digitize resources as appropriate.
• Create finding aids/guides and develop website content for the use of the collection.
• Develop, coordinate, and maintain an active records management program.
• Provide direct research assistance to the public.
• Maintain and develop relationships with partners to expand positive community impact.
• Serve on the I&RS desk coverage as part of department rotation.
• Collection maintenance of the Historical Reference collection. May be assigned some other collection development responsibilities.
Requires:
• Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science (ALA accredited), in public history, or in history with historical administration emphasis required. Graduate level coursework in archival principles and practices or Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) required.
• At least 3 years’ experience managing historical materials in an archival setting, including database development and support of physical collections.
• Experience managing born-digital archival workflows, leading digitization projects using archival standards, and creating original metadata description for digital collections required, as well as thorough knowledge of emerging trends in digital archives, museums, and libraries.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work effectively with community partners, work both independently and as part of a team, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Spanish language skills a plus.
Schedule: 40 hours per week on weekdays with some evenings and weekends.
