The AAR is a place where the past, present, and future exist an accumulation of historical records or materials – in any medium – or the physical facility in which they are located. Archives contain primary source documents that have accumulated over the course of an individual or organization's lifetime and are kept showing the function of that person or organization.
The Librarian Manager will be the chief Archivist, or Conservator, to assemble, preserve, catalog, and manage historical records and materials in any medium for AGSG customers in their physical facility or digital storage solution. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer (Treasurer) and will have one direct report.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Appraises and edits permanent records and historically valuable documents, participate in research activities based on archival materials, and directs safekeeping of archival documents and materials
Analyzes documents, such as government records, minutes of corporate board meetings, letters from famous persons, and charters of nonprofit foundations, by ascertaining the date of writing, author, or original recipient of a letter, to appraise value to posterity or to employ organization
Directs activities of workers engaged in cataloging and safekeeping of valuable materials and directs the disposition of materials
Prepares or directs preparation of document descriptions and reference aids for use of archives, such as accession lists, indexes, guides, bibliographies, abstracts, and digitizing copies of documents
Directs filing and cross-indexing of selected valuables in alphabetical and chronological order
Ensure that collections are preserved correctly by employing the appropriate storing and conservation technique for the items; monitor the storage space and security to protect materials
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in law, library science, history, archival science, or a related field
Master’s degree in library science or related discipline a plus
Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists is a plus
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of work experience in a similar role
Experience in collection management, exhibit design, research, or restoration is a plus
Familiar with computer applications and database systems
Strong organizational skills; great attention to details
Experience in financial services or the insurance industry is a plus
