Job Description:

The nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare seeks an Archivist to preserve the history of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), pediatric care, and child health through oversight and maintenance of the Gartner Pediatric History Center (GPHC) collections. These collections include the corporate archive of the AAP, such as physical and digital records, pediatric artifacts, historic monographs, the oral history collection, and limited personal papers and manuscripts of leading pioneers in the field of pediatrics and child health. The Archivist will also provide AAP staff consultation and guidance in appropriate digitization and organization of AAP resources.

Qualified candidates will possess:
• Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited school, in public history, or in history with historical administration emphasis required. Graduate level coursework in archival principles and practices or Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) required.
• At least 3 years’ related experience managing historical materials in an archival setting, including database development and website development and maintenance.
• Experience managing born-digital archival workflows, expertise in leading digitization projects using archival standards, and creating original metadata description for digital collections required, as well as thorough knowledge of emerging trends in digital archives, museums, and libraries.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work effectively with various internal and external constituents, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, pay close attention to detail, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Excellent verbal/written communication, analytical, organization, critical thinking, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills required, as well as the ability to evaluate and prioritize research requests and determine appropriate level of access required.
• Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, experience with website maintenance software/collaboration sites (eg, SharePoint), and the ability to learn and apply new technologies particularly in digitization and preservation/organization of digital materials; experience with virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams) preferred.
• Some evening/weekend work travel required, as well as the ability to be flexible with work schedule to accommodate physicians’ availability.
