Job Description
Backstage Library Works is seeking qualified applicants for the open position of Project Manager/Archivist. In this role, you will oversee the successful execution of archival processing, inventory, and assessment projects within designated timelines and budgets. This will involve establishing efficient workflows, assembling project teams, managing quality, effectively communicating with project stakeholders, carrying out project work, and providing top-tier customer service to clients. Actual project work necessities vary from project to project; therefore, flexibility and adaptability are key skills required for this position. However, most projects will involve collection arrangement, re-housing, description, basic preservation, and diligent record keeping of all work completed.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy traveling, networking with professionals, and embracing challenges. This position requires regular travel to client institutions, where you will oversee project preparations and implementation. You will be provided with an expense budget to cover all travel and lodging associated with assigned projects. Depending on project availability, you may be assigned projects from other service areas between projects related to the archives field. Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time exempt project-based position with a starting salary of $47,840. We believe in providing comprehensive benefits to our employees, and as a Project Manager/Archivist, you will have access to the following:

Primary Responsibilities
• Manage archives-focused and other collection management projects, ensuring timely and budgeted completion.
• Travel on-site to client institutions.
• Coordinate project preparations and implementation.
• Recruit and train local temporary employees for project execution.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop comprehensive project plans and efficient workflows.
• Create quality assurance plans and implement clear quality control checks for accuracy.
• Supervise the project team and address inquiries and disputes.
• Communicate project progress to stakeholders and resolve issues promptly.
• Represent Backstage on-site, handling client queries professionally.
• Embrace challenges and opportunities, including travel and networking.
• Support the Vice President of On-site Services as needed for department success.

Required Qualifications & Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in library and information science or a related field.
• Proven experience in processing and/or managing archival collections.
• Society of American Archivists (SAA) or Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) certification (or ability to acquire certification within 6 months of hire).
• Familiarity with Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).
• Familiarity with Encoded Archival Description (EAD).
• Experience creating original finding aids.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and lead a project team.
• Detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy and quality control.
• Flexibility to travel regularly and work on-site at client institutions.

At least 1 year of archival processing experience required

Preferred Additional Qualifications & Skills
• Master’s degree in library and information science with a focus on archives.
• Proven experience in project management, successfully delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Project management professional (PMP) certification.
• Experience working with diverse client groups and adapting to different organizational cultures.
• Active involvement in professional organizations
