Wage: $1,980.80 - $2,377.60 Biweekly

Job Type: Full-Time

Performs archival work in support of the Douglas County Libraries Archives and Local History (ALH) including reference services, archival collections, cataloging and description, material processing, preservation, outreach and activities, digitization, and departmental documentation. Provides customer service to internal (DCL) and external customers. Collaborates with staff and volunteers to plan and execute projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

50% Processing Archives and Collections

Arranges and describes archival materials in accordance to DCL archival standards.
Safely handles, stores, and/or rehouses archival material in appropriate enclosures and shelf locations.
Enhances archives catalog records for existing and new items, ensuring premium discoverability.
Accepts donations, processes acquisitions and accessioning of historical materials.
Maintains security standards and environmental conditions for ALH collections.
Analyzes and interprets a wide variety of historical document formats in order to describe them and assess their research value.
Creates and maintains metadata across multiple content management systems.
Receives and processes items for the ALH collection.
Performs ongoing collection management and reading room maintenance tasks.
May participate in large-scale archival projects.
Ability to work within Preservica, Archives Space and Content DM.
Coordinates the processing of the Oral History Collection.
Represents DCL and works at signature events.
35% Reference, Events, Exhibits, and Customer Service

Provides ALH reference services for customers.
Develops and delivers dynamic events and presentations to various groups.
Contributes to Marketing and Communications Dept. to support ALH.
Provides a professional customer-service focus to all.
Performs outreach to local historic groups, schools and community organizations.
15% Administration

Maintains and updates department materials.
Responsible for helping to maintain daily department operations.
Attends and engages in department/division meetings. Brings ideas and thoughts to the meetings. Communicates openly and professionally.
Performs other work duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required:

Bachelor degree
Minimum of 2 years working in libraries, archives, or research collections
Preferred:

Academic background in American History, humanities, museum studies, oral history, public history, genealogy, records management, or related subjects
Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science, certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists, or related advanced degree in archival management
Experience with audio-visual collections, digital preservation, scanning equipment, MARC cataloging, and/or rare book handling
Experience with the data standards DACS, Dublin Core, EAC-CPF, EAD, Library of Congress authorities, OAIS, PREMIS, or XML is helpful in this role
A combination of experience and education will be considered.

Physical Requirements: Ability to drive between various branches. Must have the physical ability, stamina, mobility and manual dexterity to support a 7-day a week operation. Work at computer stations for extended periods. Participate in meetings and events at various locations and at varied times throughout the day. Access and transport materials up to 40 pounds. Tolerate potential exposure to dust, dirt, debris, mildew, and decomposing matter encountered in aging and historic materials. Ability to read as small as 8pt font.
