POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Archive Librarian will help build and preserve a local history collection with enduring value. This position is responsible for professional archival work, including curating and managing documents and artifacts, and ensuring physical and digital access for the community. Job responsibilities involve accession/deaccession of materials, processing collections, developing finding aides, research assistance, building community partnerships, and managing accompanying budgets. This position falls within the Collection Management team and will work collaboratively as needed.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on the qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. This is an hourly, non-benefited position.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Tasks

Under the general supervision of the Collection Management Coordinator:

Acquire, appraise, accession, process, describe, and preserve collections that include primary source documents, local history and local author publications, and unique artifacts that encompass enduring historical value for the Westminster community
Facilitate community access to these collections and provide reference and research support
Utilize community demographics and archival best practices to develop an inclusive, locally-relevant collection
Research Parks, Recreation, and Libraries Department and other local community history
Identify conservation concerns and perform basic preservation practices
Develop relationships with other City of Westminster divisions and community organizations to promote services, build collections, and encourage participation in archive programs and events
Collaborate with other Library work groups on projects as needed, including developing exhibits and programming to celebrate City of Westminster governmental and local history
Participate in professional organizations and stay current with archive trends and best practices
Other projects as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses and Certifications

Required:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
Master’s Degree in library science, archive, museum, history, or similar OR three or more years of professional archival experience
Knowledge of the basic functions of archival practices
Preferred:

Coursework and/or experience in archives
ACA Certificate, DAS Certificate, and/or A & D Certificate
Reference and research experience
Experience with collaborative team environments and project management
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.

Physical Requirements

Work performed is physical in nature, and involves sufficient physical strength and stamina, with options to negotiate needed support and accommodations, for:

Frequent sit and stand at computer work station; occasionally moving throughout a multi-level, public library facility
Frequent crouching, squatting, bending, and twisting to shelve materials from floor level to above head; frequent climbing and balancing to use step stools, ladders, etc.
Constant light grasp and fine manipulation to sort through stored material for assessment, accessioning, or retrieval; frequent firm grasp and handling to move materials between locations
Constant near acuity to read computer screens, and book and shelving labels; frequent hearing to communicate with public, staff, and partners
Frequent lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds from ground to waist to and from ground to overhead to retrieve and shelve collections; occasional carrying of up to fifty (50) pounds 200 feet to move items and/or material; occasional pushing/pulling of up to 150 pounds with cart throughout multi-level public use library

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is constantly performed indoors in a public library setting. This position involves a combination of independent work in a shared office space and frequent public contact and mobility at archive service point.

Required Materials and Equipment

Frequent use of telephones, personal computers, databases (including online searching), telephones, fax machines, photocopiers, scanners, microform and microfilm equipment, scanners, barcode readers, book security system equipment, and various electronic and audio-visual equipment.
