JOB DESCRIPTION
This job is to assist the Church History Department in its purpose to help God's children make and keep sacred covenants by building and providing access to a historically significant and useful collection of Church history records. The work consists of acquiring and processing corporate Church records of historical value. Work is done in teams consisting of employees, interns, and volunteers, often located across the world and collaboration is essential. This experienced individual contributor will both perform the work themselves and assist the supervisor in training and directing employees, interns, and volunteers to carry out all or some of the functions. The work must be done expeditiously and accurately.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Follows defined strategies, plans, and workflows (adapting to circumstances when needed) to acquire and process large digital and paper-based collections in a timely manner.
Manages work, including managing workflows, collaborating with other archivists and technicians, supervising interns, and coordinating logistical details.
Handles sensitive information across diverse cultures and languages, including information from or about senior Church leaders and operations.
Develops professionally by participating in professional conferences, workshops, webinars, etc.
Contributes to the development of plans and processes and applies Lean principles to their work.
Contributes to the work by creating bibliographic records and finding aids.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in history, library science, archival studies, or related field.
Five years of experience; or equivalent education and experience mix.
Broad knowledge of history, especially Church history. Preferred candidates will already possess knowledge associated with the assignment. For instance, knowledge of Church leaders, departments, corporate organizations, and operations. As well as prominent people, dates, locations, and events.
In-depth understanding and application of archival principles, practices, and standards. Certified archivist preferred, but not required. Previous experience with Records Management programs is also preferred.
University level speaking, writing, and editing skills.
Ability to effectively train and support interns, volunteers, and missionaries. Project management skills.
Proven ability to adapt to processing both digital and paper-based collections.
Good judgement; organization and planning skills; demonstrated ability to perceive, analyze, and resolve problems; interpersonal skills and influence, including the ability to work with others in a professional manner.
Ability to sit for long periods of time while using computer monitors/equipment. Able to tolerate exposure to dust and mold from old records and artifacts. Able to lift 50 lbs.
