Collections Services Supervisor
Under the direction of the Head , Open Collections Curation & Access , the Reading Room Services Supervisor is responsible for managing the operations of the Wurzburger Reading Room in Hayden Library , and coordinates the provision of reference services through Ask -an- Archivist .
The Reading Room Services Supervisor also supports the development and implementation of policies and procedures for reference, access services, and reading room services in accordance with identified best practices and standards of the profession.
Using a team-based approach to problem-solving, the Reading Room Services Supervisor actively contributes to effective workflow changes and improved cross-library communication practices.

Essential Duties
Works across teams to provide reference and research assistance for ASU Library ’s specialized collections in person, via email, and through Ask -a- Librarian / Ask -an- Archivist services.
Responds to general reference questions and access requests through Ask -an- Archivist , and triages tickets in consultation with appropriate stakeholders.
Schedules patron appointments for the Wurzburger Reading Room and the Design and the Arts Special Collections Reading Room ; collaborates in scheduling coverage for Reading Room services, and provides welcoming and inclusive services in the Wurzburger Reading Room as scheduled.
Coordinates the shelving, retrieval, and re-shelving of specialized collections in secure storage areas; coordinates receiving and return of materials between the Wurzburger Reading Room and other storage areas.
Promotes safe handling and use of collections, and guides patrons and other staff in best practices; takes appropriate measures to safeguard collections within the Reading Room and other storage areas.
Supervises student assistants and makes sure daily assigned tasks are completed.
Develops and maintains student worker schedule; utilizes established volume and workflow indicators to adjust staffing accordingly to ensure continuous compliance with standards.
Collects and compiles monthly statistical measures; analyzes and interprets data and prepares related reports to communicate results to administrators and other stakeholders.
Provides support for specialized collections workflows, including reformatting; collaborates with appropriate personnel to develop and update operational procedures and process documentation, and communicate changes to staff and other stakeholders.
Collaborates with preservation staff on best practices for the care and handling of library materials.
Monitors and assesses Reading Room services to suggest changes to policies and/or procedures to improve service and efficiency.
Works on other projects as assigned.
Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree AND four (4) years prior library experience; at least two (2) of which includes supervision of personnel or services OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Valid State of AZ Drivers License .
Desired Qualifications
Evidence of working toward or has attained a Master 's Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or has earned Academy of Certified Archivists Certification .
1-3 years of experience triaging, researching, and responding to reference questions.
1-3 years of customer service experience.
Experience working in a special collections department, archive, or academic library.
Experience engaging with initiatives as they relate to issues of diversity, inclusion, and access.
Experience leading process improvement in a team environment.
Knowledge of the proper handling and awareness of the preservation of rare and archival materials.
Knowledge of best practices in rare books, special collections, and archives.
Ability to analyze, interpret, and report on data.
Ability to manage and bring to successful completion multiple overlapping assignments and projects.
Evidence of a valid State of Arizona driver’s license.
Working Environment
Activities are performed in an archival environmentally controlled facility and in climate controlled office settings subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
Frequent physical demands include bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 40 pounds, and pushing objects of varying weights up to 200 pounds.
Exposure to dust and other airborne materials; periodic use of bins of varying sizes and weights.
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities that may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
