Northwestern State University is seeking an Assistant Archivist to work under the supervision of an ACA Certified Head Archivist. The Assistant Archivist will support the Head Archivist in the running of the Cammie G. Henry Research Center which also serves as the university archives. Applicants for the position must hold an earned Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program; additional advanced degree(s) preferred. Some night and weekend hours are required in both the Archives and other library departments as necessary.

Qualifications
Requirements:

American Library Association accredited Master's degree with a concentration in archives management or archival equivalent
Experience in processing archival and manuscript collections
Demonstrated understanding of, and enthusiasm for the use of, emerging technologies
Service-oriented philosophy
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and collegially as a member of a team
Commitment to building strong relationships between the library, university academic departments, university community, and external communities
Scholarly and professional competence
Preferred:
Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists
Additional graduate or terminal degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g., History or English)
Archival experience in an academic setting
Experience with promoting collections through social media
Training in MARC, EAD, DACS, and other processing standards
Reading knowledge of French and Spanish languages
Job Concepts
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Providing reference/research assistance to a diverse population of researchers including high school, the university community, scholars, and the general public with searching through manuscripts, books, photographs, serials, monographs, maps, and newspapers in various formats;
Processing collections;
Preparing materials for relational databases;
Providing online access to materials;
Conducting tours and orientation classes for students and patrons;
Participating in professional development activities;
Supervising and training student workers;
Curating exhibits;
Representing the Archives at appropriate university, professional, and community functions;
Working with other library departments;
Meeting tenure track requirements;
Other duties as assigned.
