Northwestern State University is seeking an A CA-certified Head Archivist, reporting to the Director of University Libraries. The Head Archivist provides strategic leadership, vision, and management oversight for the Cammie G. Henry Research Center which also serves as the university archives. Applicants for the position must hold an earned Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program; additional advanced degree(s) preferred. Additionally, they must demonstrate an outstanding record as an educator and scholar consistent with the rank of Associate or Full Professor, possess a strong record of professional librarianship, scholarship, and service, and have a minimum of five years of successful administrative experience with progressive responsibilities in an academic or research library.

Qualifications
Requirements:
American Library Association accredited Master's degree with a concentration in archives management or archival equivalent
Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists
A minimum of five (5) years of supervisory, managerial, and/or leadership experience
Demonstrated understanding of, and enthusiasm for the use of, emerging technologies
Experience in processing archival and manuscript collections
Service-oriented philosophy
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and collegially as a member of a team
Commitment to building strong relationships between the library, university academic departments, university community, and external communities
Scholarly and professional competence
Preferred:
Archival experience in an academic setting
Additional graduate or terminal degree in an appropriate discipline ( e.g., History or English)
Experience with records management
Successful grant-writing experience
Fundraising experience and experience working with donors of collections
Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relations with donors
Experience with promoting collections through social media
Experience with relational databases and the creation of collections within such databases
Training in MARC, EAD, DACS, and other processing standards
Reading knowledge of French and Spanish languages
Job Concepts
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Administering and supervising the Research Center, including the Assistant Archivist, student workers, and part-time staff;
Identifying, soliciting, accessioning, appraising, arranging, describing, and inventorying the University's manuscripts collection and university archives;
Collecting, requesting, organizing, managing, and providing access to the Louisiana book collection, rare book collection, and Louisiana documents;
Providing reference service to the Research Center during library hours and some evening and weekend hours (including assisting and scheduling patrons), answering research requests, conducting orientation classes and tours for students and patrons, and developing bibliographies and guides to the collection;
Plans and creates a permanent environmentally controlled and secure space for the Research Center including deacidifying, encapsulating, cleaning, mending, and storing of all items within the Center;
Coordinating and directing annual exhibits within the Research Center and providing assistance with the creation of other library exhibits;
Cooperating and participating with library personnel concerning the development and modification of library policies and procedures;
Planning for future development of collections and online access to materials;
Developing close working relationships with faculty, staff, students, administration, and relevant community members and organizations;
Serving as the campus records management officer;
Other duties as assigned
