Continuing Education Credits (CECs)
Certification Maintenance
Pre-Approved Continuing Education Credits
Formerly known as Archival Recertification Credits (ARCs).
Certified Archivists maintain the credential in one of two ways during each five-year certification cycle.
Recertify by petition
Earn 60 continuing education credits (CECs) across the categories described in the ACA Recertification Petition Guidelines, then submit your Petition for Recertification.
Recertify by examination
Sit for the ACA Examination again during your certification cycle.
Organizations and instructors often ask ACA to pre-qualify a specific course, workshop, or webinar before it is offered. Those pre-approved activities appear in the lists below. More than 750 activities have been pre-approved since 2005, so the lists are organized by year. Many of the online workshops are still available, even when the original posting is several years old.
These lists are not a complete catalog of continuing education for archivists. They include only the activities ACA has pre-qualified. An activity that does not appear here may still earn credit if it meets the criteria in the guidelines that govern your certification cycle.
If a sponsor gave you an ACA pre-approval code, enter that code when you submit the activity in the recertification portal. No additional documentation is needed.
Have a course you would like pre-qualified?
Sponsors, instructors, and Certified Archivists can request pre-approval for a course, workshop, or webinar.
