• Summer 2022

June is here and so is the Certification test. Thank you in advance to those members who are helping to proctor the exam. We appreciate your service. Good luck to members taking the exam to recertify. I hope everyone who needed to recertify this year was successful in entering your activities into the new Prolydian software system. And I will take a moment to thank Stephanie Bayless and her team for their hard work checking the entries and recertifying our members. Everyone can enter their activities into the system now. You do not need to wait until the five years are up. If you need help getting into the system please contact the Regent for Recertification certificationmaintenance@certifiedarchivists.org, or Association Manager, Mike Breslin, at office@certifiedarchivists.org.

Please don’t forget to vote. The election is running from June 1st to 11:45 pm, June 15th (Eastern US time). To review the candidates, please go to:
https://www.certifiedarchivists.org/election-2022All full members should have received an automated message from "Academy of Certified Archivists” containing your personalized voting link and access key. These can only be used to vote once, and your voting choices will remain anonymous. Do not forward that email and do not reply to that email to vote, as your vote will not be registered. If you need help please contact the office at office@certifiedarchivists.org.

July 1 will be time for dues again – please pay on time. If you have not paid by September 30, your access to the member side (and your ability to enter recertification points) of the website will be disabled until you pay your dues.

Also, stay tuned for information about the August general membership meeting which will again be held on Zoom to allow more people to attend. The Board is trying to arrange a social event during the SAA meeting in Boston, and if we can arrange something, information will be sent out.

  • ACA Statement on America’s Ongoing Crises and the Archives Profession, June 5, 2020

To the members of the Academy, our fellow archives and cultural heritage practitioners, and our larger archives community,

The Academy of Certified Archivists Board of Regents stands with our community of professionals to actively work against historical exclusions in the archives and in the archives profession. The Academy strongly believes that the profession’s future depends on our ability to accept change and to re-imagine our spaces, our approaches, and our culture.

A key function of the Academy’s members and leadership is to participate in the definition and advancement of professional archival education, concepts, and issues and constantly review, update, and reconsider the core competencies for archival work. In 2019, the Academy took action to develop a Cultural Competency Domain for archival certification highlighting and working to promote and celebrate the ongoing work in the profession to end discriminatory practices that have motivated archival collecting for generations. We will be highlighting the work of those changing the narrative of history and community in the archives: gender, anti-racism, disappeared populations, historical erasure, and colonially-focused collection, description, appraisal, and education.

We support the end to exclusionary practices in archival collection and management. We will actively work with our communities as part of our efforts to create a diverse, inclusive, knowledgeable and active profession that recognizes and promotes the importance of cultural competency, of active work to redefine the scope of our profession, and to ensure all are, and feel, welcome.

Included here is a new document, “Resources for Archivists: Black Lives Matter, Anti-racism, and Emotional Labor” started by the Board that contains links to resources, sites, and statements in support of national protests against state violence and in support of the people. We hope this document can be, and will become, a resource for all of us who are working to change the face, complexion, and future of our profession. We encourage our members to read, review, and add to the document.

    Respectfully,

    The ACA Board of Regents

Call for Proctors

Are you interested in assisting ACA exam candidates while earning recertification credits? We are seeking volunteers to proctor the online exam June 11-13, 2026. Sign up here. The 3-hour exam will be offered multiple times throughout the three days, and you can choose the time slots that fit your availability. Each proctoring session lasts for 5 hours and is entirely online. It’s a great chance to meet your fellow CAs and to help future CAs!

To ensure that everyone can earn points toward recertification, please do not sign up for more than two time slots. Proctor training will be provided several times in early June. If you have any questions, please reach out to examadmin@certifiedarchivists.org.
