Lauren Goodley, Candidate for Secretary

Goodley

As a member of the Executive Board, how do you see the secretary supporting the Academy’s strategic plan?

As an officer and member of the ACA Board of Regents, the Secretary plays a key role in the governance and business of the Academy. In particular, the work of the Secretary supports the Academy’s strategic plan by maintaining accurate, complete, and succinct records of meeting minutes. These minutes comprise a record of the institutional memory of the Academy. The work of the Secretary serves to hold the Board accountable to its goals and strategic plans, and promotes transparency to the Academy’s membership and the field of archives as a whole.

As secretary, I would support and value these tasks and outcomes, as evidenced in my service as Communications Chair and Newsletter Editor for the Society of Southwest Archivists. As editor, I ensured that the newsletter published timely and correct leadership reports, news and announcements, and articles. I also worked to include articles that represented the diverse membership, across the region geographically, in type of repository and materials, and in communities represented.

I understand that the Secretary is a vital member of the Board, and plan to attend all meetings, including the board meeting held in conjunction with SAA annual meeting, and any regular or called meetings throughout the year. I would create minutes in a timely manner, and ensure they are published online, thus providing records of actions to guide the Board, as well as inform the membership.

The 3-hour exam will be offered multiple times throughout the three days, and you can choose the time slots that fit your availability. Each proctoring session lasts for 5 hours and is entirely online. It’s a great chance to meet your fellow CAs and to help future CAs!

To ensure that everyone can earn points toward recertification, please do not sign up for more than two time slots. Proctor training will be provided several times in early June. If you have any questions, please reach out to examadmin@certifiedarchivists.org.
