Salary Information: Salary is dependent on experience with a minimum of $30,504.00.
Department Summary
The UNT Libraries offer access to a collection of more than 6 million items (print and digital) along with expert personnel to assist patrons in achieving their academic and scholarly goals. The Libraries have a wide range of student and faculty-centered services, innovative and inclusive programs, and resources to facilitate teaching, learning, and research at UNT.
The Special Collections department collects and preserves rare and unique materials including rare books, oral histories, university archives, historical manuscripts, maps, microfilm, photographs, art and artifacts. Collections are visited annually by scholars from across the country as well as by visitors to our reading room exhibits.

Position Overview
The Processing Archivist will process and create descriptive tools to facilitate preservation and access to archival materials held by the UNT Special Collections Department. They will work primarily at the Library Annex, located a short distance from the UNT Denton campus.. Under the supervision of the Archive Processing Coordinator the Processing Archivist will perform work on a variety of collections, including archives, manuscripts, photography and other types of unique materials. Work performed will include archival appraisal, arrangement and description of collections, preparation of collections for storage, and identification of preservation issues within collections.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and one year of progressively responsible library experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Extensive knowledge of library principles and policies, and knowledge of specialized area functions and workflows.
* Experience in working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
* Ability to utilize multiple computer applications toward increased productivity in a rapidly changing environment.
* Strong leadership skills.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
* Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
Master's degree
One or more years of experience in archival processing and the application of basic processing strategies for large 20th century collections
Experience performing records management duties and/or creating records management schedules
Experience appraising and processing electronic records
Demonstrated success in bringing archival projects to completion
Proficiency with data content and structure standards relevant to the archival control of collection materials (EAD, MARC, LCSH)
Experience with digitization and metadata creation
Familiarity with basic preservation and conservation standards
Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists
Experience using Archon or Archives Space

Job Duties
Create processing plan for each new collection and document actions taken to process collection.
Create accurate and detailed inventories of collections, ensure inventories are coded correctly.
Perform research to authenticate and accurately describe archival materials.
Communicate with donors, assist in picking up collections, and create accession records.
Other duties in support of Special Collections.
