Lead Project Archivist
This location will be based at: Building 33-05.2 2810 160th Ave SE Bellevue, WA 98008
Job Description:
This ongoing position establishes and oversees onsite operations and workflows to process and prepare paper-based and media collections for offsite digitization following archival standards and best practices.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Process and preserve archival resources in accordance with professional standards, best practices, and following guidelines established by the client archivists.
- Organize records, artifacts, film, photographs, and negatives into collections per client policy.
- Prepare archival resources for digitization and manage digitization preparation workflows.
- Maintain detailed and accurate tracking of archival resources leaving and reentering the facility as part of the digitization process.
- Assist the client archivists with planning, policy development and implementation, and the oversight of day-to-day operations in the client facility as relates to processing and preparing materials for digitization.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct supervision of two full-time Archives Assistants on assigned archives processing and digitization preparation projects.
- Provide training and periodic oversight of handling and care protocols for offsite digitization staff.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience in archival studies, history, or library and information science and significant knowledge of current archival theory and methods relating to preservation, arrangement, processing, and description OR ALA accredited Masters of Library and Information Science and 3+ years experience processing large multi-format archival collections
- Experience with metadata schema and tools (especially DACS, EAD, Dublin Core, RDA, MARC, and MODS)
- Experience with archival management systems (such as ArchivesSpace)
- Previous experience directing/managing the work of a paraprofessional staff or students in archives setting.
- Strong problem solving and project management skills, with an ability to be receptive to changing priorities and to manage multiple work processes and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to maintain a high level of detail and accuracy in management and completion of tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively and in a self-directed capacity, with a solutions-oriented focus.
- Superior interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
- Ability to lift archival boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Archivist certification through the Academy of Certified Archivists
- Experience working in a corporate or government archives.
- Experience with the preservation of historical collections using standard archival practices.
- Background in and experience with subject matter relating to aerospace, industry, or other technical area.
- Background in and experience with large-scale digitization projects.
