"Our commitment to certification is not about the past ... our commitment is ... strengthening the archival profession."
"The Academy of Certified Archivists is now enjoying its fifteenth year and is stronger than ever." |
Thank you for visiting our home on the internet!
Welcome to the Academy of Certified Archivists’ web site. I think you will find
that it is a very useful place for both currently certified archivists (CAs),
and for those who may be considering adding the CA credential to their own
professional qualifications. You can find here, for example, the Candidate’s
Handbook, which is absolutely essential reading for future test-takers. You
can find information on certification maintenance, if you are already certified
(and if you are wondering how you can re-new your credential after you have
become certified). And if you are among those mulling over whether certification
is right for you, you can find a great deal of information about the certification
process that is intended to dispel any mysteries about the Academy, and give
you the information you need to make an informed decision about what is right
for your own career path. In fact, it won’t take much poking around to determine
the site is information rich, and I can attest that it has benefited from many
previous queries that have helped us to improve it; I urge you take a few moments
to see if your issues aren’t addressed here.
However, no web site can answer every question, nor can it anticipate
every circumstance that is particular to your own special situation. If
you have navigated this site and your question is unanswered, or if you’d
like to talk about archival certification as it pertains to you, please
don’t hesitate to drop us an e-mail at aca@caphill.com. Or, you can contact
the Academy’s ombudsman, Michael Bullington, whose e-dress is on the home
page of this site. I am very proud of the responsiveness of the Academy,
and you can rest assured we will do our very best to answer your questions
as promptly as possible. Finally, I’d just like to take a moment to share some of our current excitement
in the Academy, as 2009 represents our 20th anniversary year. The Academy
has been growing from a seed planted in 1989 (the first year the exam was
given), and I am delighted that we have projected that sometime this year
we are likely to welcome our 1,000th member. This growth has been nurtured
by an extraordinarily dedicated group of archival professionals, who devote
endless hours to insure the Academy’s business of role delineation, test
construction, certification maintenance, and so much more, is administered
fairly and thoughtfully. Certification is an achievement of which to be proud, and I hope you will
do what it takes to join us, and to thereafter maintain your certified
status. Once again, welcome to our web site, and we wish you the very best
in your archival pursuits.
